sin, marriage, and the reality of it all.

sin entered into the world through adam and eve. they disobeyed God and were punished. now it would be nice to just blame adam and eve for it all and think that if they wouldn't have sinned, the world would still be in full bliss... i hate to break it to you well the truth is.. even if adam and eve wouldn't have sinned first by taking a bite of that juicy looking apple, you or i would have done it ourselves.

people have different views and opinions of sin.. here are a couple of them:

to the worldly.. sin is fun, enjoyable, exciting, pleasurable, thrilling, permissive.

to a Christ follower.. sin is ugly, temporary, lifeless, meaningless, harmful, false satisfaction.

the reality of it all.. we all sin. some do purposefully, some do knowingly and some even do it unknowingly. the fact is.. we all sin. when we sin, we are hurting ourselves, the ones we love, and the One who created us to love and live for Him.

being a newlywed, this is something i am learning as i grow in my marriage. mr. b and i have been married just shy of 10 months. talk about newlyweds huh? :) we are definitely loving it and highly encourage others to get married if they feel called to do so! marriage is a blessing and a gift to be treasured.

marriage is so beautiful it makes it something to fight for. and when i mean fight.. i mean fight hard. there are attacks on so many marriages, even our marriage gets attacked by the enemy. we feel these attacks are because the Lord wants to use us in big ways and satan thinks he can stop us. news to satan: Jesus over came sin, death, the grave and YOU. so move over because mr. b and i have the Holy Spirit living in us and with that power, we are also able to overcome the same things as Christ did!

1 john 5:4 "for everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith."

marriage is the perfect opportunity to reflect Christ's unconditional love to one another. there is no giving up when it comes to marriage. mr. b and i talked wayyy before marriage and agreed that if we ended up in marriage [yay!! we did!!!] then there would be no thought or talk of the d word. marriage is meant to be [sanctifying]: this means to be made holy or the process of holiness. it is also [refining]: the removing of impurities or unwanted elements. BOTH of these terms directly relate to sin. sin is what keeps us from holiness; which is to be like Christ who is holy. sin keeps us from being pure; Christ shed his own blood on the cross for us to cleanse us from all impurities. they are both actions and a process as well.. meaning this happens over time, friends! so have patients :) [something i am also learning!]

so often sin tears marriages apart, it causes destruction and leaves people broken hearted. we see this happen every day.

so as you see.. sin is a horrible thing. it is something to be hated. something to despise. so you know that silly saying 'don't hate the player, hate the game'.. God is continuing to remind me and stretch me by 'don't hate the sinner, hate the sin'.  that's why i encourage and urge you to fight. one thing i promise you that is worth fighting for is your marriage. work together to attack the problem, not each other. work together to experience freedom from the sin and sanctify your marriage! when we got married.. my sin now becomes our sin, his sin now becomes our sin. it's not just a his/hers issue and battle.. it's something we now fight at together!

remember the beauty in all of this is that Christ overcame ALL of this on the cross! it's been paid for! we are forgiven and free. we now have the ability to overcome our sin as well through repentance! we can have full freedom and victory friends!!

i love this song by desperation band.. overcome. you should definitely listen to it. i like to sing at the top of my lungs with faith knowing that is true in my life.

you can watch and listen [here]

1 corinthians 10:13 says "no temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

with much love.

  2. Amen! Marriage is something to fight for. I didn't have that mindset when I first got married...divorce wasn't an option for us either, but I also didn't feel willing to fight for my marriage and to believe wholeheartedly that it was a God-given gift, so on bad days, I would feel depressed and hopeless. Now I have realized that and during the (infrequent but inevitable, due to sin) misunderstandings, unkind words, and hurt feelings that may come up--I have unwavering hope that God joined Angel and I together for a purpose and I will fight to not give the devil or sin a chance to gain a foothold in our marriage.

  3. I agree completely with everything you said. Marriage is something worth fighting for...which is a good thing, because it's something we'll eventually be forced into fighting for. Haha! Great post, girl.
